Tell me about how you got to where you are today.
I always did everything I was SUPPOSED to do: go to college, get a job, etc. I went to Canisius for my Master’s degree which has helped me to get to where I am and also helped me with my people skills. I’ve always wanted to be the best in everything I did and I loved the constant recognition from my mom and my teachers. I was hired as a teacher at 21 after substituting and taught for 7 years and loved it so much. But, at the top…they sucked. I wasn’t respected and couldn’t do what I wanted to do and make the impact I wanted to make. It was draining.
I was engaged to this jerk and at the time was invited to a Pure Romance party. I had so much fun and bought the business on a whim because I’m impulsive! I just love teaching, going to trainings, helping the other women at the parties and girls on my team. This morning, I had texts from the girls after our team meeting saying, “You are my inspiration. I want to be just like you.” It makes me tingle and I feel like I’m reaching more people now than when I was teaching.
Being happy and excited gets me to where I need to be because people want to be around it. There’s so much misery in the world today that people are just attracted to smiles. It’s easy for me to smile.
What is one quote that has stuck with you through all of this?
My sponsor Robin, the woman that I started under, told us this quote at a training once. She said, “There’s no such thing as try.” People say they will try to make it, try to call you or try to get a babysitter. No, you’re either going to do it or you’re not. And that’s the difference between me and the other women who aren’t doing it. I don’t try to do things, I just do them. I always used to tell people I would try to get ahold of them, but now I’ve removed try from my vocabulary because I feel like people are just going to try stuff but not put their all into it.
At the training, she actually said to us, “Try to pick up that pen.” And we didn’t get it. She said, “Right, you can’t try to pick it up. You’re either going to do it or you’re not.”
Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?
My sponsor, Robin. She has restarted her Pure Romance business four times from moving to different parts of the country. She now has a team all over the US. She’s 32, married, has 2 kids, and is debt free. She’s very consistent and driven. She made me feel like I could do anything I wanted to and it made me think that I could do all the things she could. I listen to her and went to her trainings and now I feel like my team is more influential. She told me, now that I have a team this big, I have to stop focusing on my own business and start focusing on my team. Now I’m motivated by seeing them do good and seeing their texts to me that they bought a car, went on vacation, paid for their wedding, have better sex with their partner, etc. And now being on the Board of Directors for Pure Romance, I get to meet people all over the country and women see me at training and know who I am. It’s amazing.
Who has been your biggest supporter and why?
I would have to say, my mom. When I started, I wasn’t really nervous to tell her. She came to my first party, she uses all of my products, she tells all her friends about them, and she’s helped me book parties. She is always saying that she can’t believe how amazing I’m doing, and that it’s unreal.
My boyfriend is also my supporter. You can’t do a business without having a supportive partner. He does so much for me. He helps me get ready for parties and understands that I’m leaving the house and I need to be in my office and on my phone and that I’m not always accessible. I’ve been gone on week long trips and he’s been all about it and knows it’s to better my business and myself. They both see how happy it makes me and that’s why they’re so supportive.
What is one message you would like to give to other women?
Confidence is the most important thing to have as a woman. Even if you don’t think you have it, I tell my girls, “Fake it until you make it.” If you pretend you’re confident and exude it, it just happens. Everyone in your life reacts differently to you and you are able to take control of situations and feel better about yourself. Confidence is not a size and it’s not something you wear. Decide to be confident in the morning when you wake up. It’s a decision you make. It changes your whole day.
What does being empowered mean to you?
The Pure Romance model is to empower, educate, and entertain. When I hear empower, I think that it means you can do whatever you want. You can do whatever you put your mind to. Why does it have to be the first man on the moon? I feel that it also means equality and that we can do just as much as men can.
Last night I had my team meeting and as a prize I offered a lunch with me. They could either pick a Michael Kors watch or to pick my brain at lunch. The girl that was promoted at the meeting actually chose the lunch with me. She recently started her business in May and a new girl on her team bought her a promotion gift. She texted me after and said she has never felt so supported and empowered. It’s women complimenting each other, helping each other, and raising each other to the top. It’s not being catty and bringing people down. It’s being the best you that you can be. I feel empowered because I can help other people.
Robin tells me, “Some people are lifters, and some people are anchors. You are a lifter. You come into a room and everyone is happy to be there. People want to follow you." Her saying that to me was empowering.
How do you view style and fashion in your daily life?
It’s super important to me and I’ve always been into shopping. It’s actually why I started my business. I love to go shopping and I love to look good. Especially with my business, we use the term professionista. It’s the first thing that people see when they meet you and what they think of you. It doesn’t matter if you’re poor or not. If you represent yourself nicely, people are going to think that you care about yourself and your appearance. They will think you are successful. It’s the first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning when I’m putting myself together. It really helps me be noticed and it makes me feel good about myself. When I leave the house with a messy bun and sweatpants, I leave the house feeling different. I love going to my parties because I can get dressed up.
What is your favorite self-development book?
It is Darren Hardy’s book, The Compound Effect. He says that you get in the world what you give. If you give love, you get it. If you give confidence, you get it. He says that every day in the morning when he wakes up, he lays in bed and has a thought. He will think of one person and wishes them a great day and sends positive thoughts. When he sends out that positivity, he gets it back. So if you want confidence, you need to give it to other people. People need you to tell them they’re doing good things. When you can give that to someone, they won’t lose it. And that is what I was given by everyone that believed in me and that’s why I give it to other people. It’s working and they love it.
Let’s cheer on Stacey as she works to meet her goal!
In Pure Romance, if you have a million dollar team, you will get the Superstar Bonus. So at the beginning of the year I said that I wanted it. It’s $12,000 and they’re going to give it to me December 19th. So I haven’t hit it yet, but I’m well on my way. I just told myself every single day, “I’m going to have a million dollar team. I’m going to do it.” I wasn’t thinking that it was so far off. I’m going to hit it.
